What this page is showing you
Every site you visit learns two quite different sets of facts about you, and they arrive by different routes. This page separates them deliberately, because the difference is the whole privacy story.
The first set comes from the connection itself. Your traffic has to arrive from somewhere, and that address is visible to every server you contact — there is no setting that hides it. From the address, public registry data gives the network operator, the autonomous system, and an approximate location. That is the network half of this page.
The second set comes from your browser, which volunteers it. Screen dimensions, timezone, language preferences, platform and available fonts are all offered up in the course of rendering a page. None of it is requested from a server here: it is read locally and displayed locally. That is the browser half.
Why the split matters
A VPN changes the first set and leaves the second untouched. That is exactly why browser fingerprinting works: your address can move to another country while your screen size, timezone and language stay recognisably yours. If you are using a VPN to be less identifiable, the browser half of this page is the part still working against you — and it is worth knowing which fields are unusual enough to matter.
Reading the security summary
The six checks at the top are a summary of facts shown elsewhere on the page, not a separate scan. HTTPS reports whether this page itself was loaded over TLS. The IPv4 and IPv6 lines report whether a public address of each family could be reached. The VPN, proxy and Tor lines are the verdicts from the detection service, carried over unchanged — including their “not determined” state, which means a check could not be completed rather than that it came back clean.
What to do with it
The most common use is confirming that something is configured the way you think: that a VPN is actually carrying your traffic, that IPv6 is genuinely working rather than merely enabled, or that a new network is handing out the addresses you expect. The second is support: when a service is behaving oddly, a single page showing your address family, network operator and detection status usually answers the first three questions anyone will ask you.
Frequently asked questions
What does this page store about me?
Nothing. There is no account, no cookie and no identifier. The results live in the page for as long as the tab is open and are gone when you close it. Reloading performs a fresh lookup rather than showing a remembered one, which is why the numbers can change between visits.
Which parts of this reach your server?
Only the network half. Finding your public address requires asking a server what address the request came from, and turning that into a country and network operator requires a geolocation lookup — the same one every other page here performs. The browser half never leaves your device: screen size, viewport, timezone, language and platform are read by JavaScript and rendered locally with no request at all.
What is share mode for?
Screenshots and support threads. Adding ?share=true hides your address, your city and your country while leaving the diagnostic parts visible, so you can show someone what your connection looks like without publishing where you are. The URL carries no data about you — it is a display flag, and the page simply renders fewer fields.
Why does the security summary show “not determined”?
Because a check could not be completed rather than because it came back negative. The Tor result depends on a public list that is occasionally unreachable, and VPN or proxy detection needs network registration data that some addresses do not publish. Reporting that honestly is more useful than converting a failed check into a confident all-clear.
Is any of this a security scan?
No. Nothing here probes your machine, opens ports back towards you, or tests your firewall. Every value is either something your browser volunteers to every site you visit or something derived from the address your traffic arrives from. The value of the page is that it shows you what is already visible, not that it discovers anything new.
